Thanks for your wide reading list Angela. I too enjoyed Tomorrow, I was surprised by how much I liked it. I also dipped back in time and read Richard Yates's Revolutionary Road. Amazing writing and study of the constriction of gender roles at that time. And also of the self imposed constriction of people pretending to live. Just finished Birnam Wood - enjoyable but somewhat straddled between eco-thriller and polemic? Feverishly working on my own writing and riding the necessary dips between happy 'flow' and despairing self criticism. Working my way through your great course from Kill Your Darlings! Good to have a friend down in the mines.

Hi Tamra, I love Richard Yates so much! Have you read his short stories, too? They’re wonderful. I haven’t read Birnam Wood yet but I’m curious; I have loved Catton’s other books. All the best with navigating those ups and downs with your writing! I really hope the course is helping with that :)

No I haven’t but I did locate another novel A Good School which was equally insightful. He gets under the skin. I must be the only person to not have read The Luminaries so that’s up soon. Thanks for your support. Enjoying the course :)

I hope she enjoys it too. I’m about 2/3 through, really involved with the characters.
